Terms of Use

Effective date: 23 October 2026

About these terms

These terms apply to the HamGenie app and the website hamgenie.com (together, “HamGenie”). HamGenie is developed and run by Tim Friesner, a sole trader in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). By using HamGenie you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

If you downloaded HamGenie from the Apple App Store, Apple’s standard End User Licence Agreement also applies. If the two conflict, Apple’s agreement takes priority for the app.

What HamGenie does

HamGenie helps radio amateurs follow the NCDXF/IARU International Beacon Project. It shows which beacon is scheduled to transmit, where it is, bearings and distances from your station, and related information about band conditions.

Information is for guidance only

  • Beacon timings are calculated from the published NCDXF/IARU schedule and your device’s clock. A beacon may be off the air, late or replaced without notice, and we cannot know this in advance.
  • Bearings, distances and paths are calculated from the locator you enter and are approximate.
  • Propagation and space-weather information comes from third-party sources such as NOAA and the Reverse Beacon Network, which we do not control and which may be delayed, incomplete or unavailable.
  • HamGenie does not replace your own judgement, your licence conditions or the rules of your licensing authority. You remain responsible for how, when and on what frequencies you operate.

AI answers (Ask HamGenie)

Some features use artificial intelligence to explain band conditions and answer questions. AI answers are generated automatically from the data available at the time and can be wrong or incomplete. Check anything important against an official source before relying on it. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in your questions.

Subscriptions

  • Some features may need a paid subscription (HamGenie Plus). Prices are shown in the app before you buy.
  • Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (or Google, on Android) and renew automatically until you cancel in your App Store or Google Play account settings, at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.
  • Features may be improved, changed or limited over time, for example by daily question limits, to keep the service fair and affordable.

Using HamGenie fairly

You agree not to:

  • misuse, overload, copy at scale or try to break into HamGenie, its server or its data sources
  • submit false beacon reports to the community map on purpose
  • use HamGenie for anything unlawful

We may suspend access for anyone who does.

The website and our content

The HamGenie name, logo, app and website content belong to Tim Friesner. You may link to hamgenie.com and share screenshots for personal and club use. Beacon data and third-party information remain the property of their owners. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.

Availability

We aim to keep HamGenie running, but we do not guarantee it will always be available, error-free or compatible with every device. We may update, pause or withdraw features or the service.

Our liability

  • HamGenie is provided “as is” for general information about amateur radio beacons and propagation.
  • To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss or damage arising from reliance on HamGenie’s information, including missed contacts, equipment set-up decisions or operating choices.
  • Where we are responsible, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for HamGenie in the 12 months before the claim.
  • Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as HamGenie develops. The latest version will always be on this page with its effective date. If you keep using HamGenie after a change, the updated terms apply.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
